The 10th Anniversary! AniManGaki 2018!
Ask me what my favourite regional events are and I'll reply wholeheartedly that AniManGaki ranks among the top of my list.
Hosted annually at the Sunway Pyramid Convention Center in Malaysia, with varying themes every year, AniManGaki has been touted as the anime, manga and games convention made for the fans, by the fans. While a drive to Malaysia is always worth it for the food and sights, adding AniManGaki to the list for my weekend getaway would be the cherry on top of a very delicious (imaginary) sundae tower.
It will be my fourth year at the event, held this year from on the 18th and 19th of August, and this year's theme features RPG (or role-playing game). This being AniManGaki's 10th year, the convention is bigger (they have an extended play space at Sunway Pyramid Shopping Mall LG2 Central Avenue) and better (think LED screens!) than before, with a whole host of activities, stage events, and of course artwork to buy over the two days~

Cosplay Competition
Sponsored by Warlord, Armaggeddon & TokyoNinki
One of AniManGaki's anchor activities as cosplayers vie for number one, as they perform sketches on stage and make their best impersonation of their cosplayed character. This year's guest judges include Chinnie (Malaysia), Yugana Senshi Uon (Malaysia) and Serg Loki Mirage (Russia). The winning team of this competition will have a chance to compete against other Malaysian cosplay champions at the annual Cosplay Invitational! The standards have been pretty good over the past years, so this is definitely one event to look out for!

AniManGaki Idol

Another popular stage programme in which contestants show off their singing skills and compete in front of a judging panel and live audience. AniManGaki Idol has also jumpstarted the career of many local anisong singers. For their 10th year, AniManGaki Idol will feature a special Battle Royale in which previous winners of AniManGaki Idol from years 2010-2017 will return to the stage and compete for the ultimate AniManGaki Idol Champion title.
Stage & Band Performance
There's never a boring time at the stage area with this year's line-up including Tokimeki JUMP (Singapore), Hayashiforest, Harmonia ACG, Nandemo ii, Mystical Mirage, The Crestfall Band, and 02 Pro! Check them out here!

Doodle 4 AniManGaki Contest

Like to draw in the corners of your notebooks? Well here's your chance, pick up a canvas from the Sakura booth and enter the doodle contest for free. Doodle artist #kendylife will be there to give you some tips as well. Having the fortune to meet him last year, you can be sure that you will be in good hands! Doujin Alley (Artist Tables)
Saving the best for last, it's the Doujin Alley, probably my favourite part of any anime convention. AniManGaki features 120 booths selling art, crafts and commissioned work! I'm expecting my wallet to be empty~

The convention will also feature special guests, Moriyama Daisuke (manga artist), Rachelhofs (Illustrator) and Keith (Cartoonist) to name a few. As well as a trading card game zone, a collectors display hall and special interest panels and workshops! For more details, check out the AniManGaki website here!
