Hirunaka no Ryuusei

Hello my nuggets!

Life has been ridiculously busy recently BUT I managed to free up some time to watch this really promising live action: Hirunaka no Ryuusei (Daytime Shooting Star). I'm ordinarily not one for romance but the teacher-student trope is one of my favorites so I absolutely had to watch it. It's surprisingly not bad at all!

I'm averse to romance because the female lead is usually exaggeratedly cute and weak, but Nagano Mei somehow makes the big eyes and pouty lips natural? I don't know how to explain it, but she makes the high school innocence seem natural. She was also the female lead in Ore Monogatari (My Love Story!!), which is one of my other favorite romance live-action/ anime.

Okay, really short summary for you guys:

Suzume Yosano is a first grade high school student. She lived in the countryside, but, due to her parents transferring overseas for work, Suzume now lives in Tokyo with her uncle. Suzume has never had a boyfriend before, but she has feelings for her homeroom teacher Satsuki Shishio. Meanwhile, her classmate, Daiki Mamura, becomes attracted to Suzume.
Honestly, the plot is pretty cliched, and most of the time I could already guess what was going to happen next, but the two main leads are ridiculously good looking!!!! So you know, no harm watching, plus it feel pretty satisfying when you get the plot right.

mc

sensei

mamura
Spoilers!!!

Anyway, long story short, she likes Sensei, Sensei likes her, Sensei can't get together with her because ~reasons~, her classmate Mamura swoops in with a unrequited love, waits for her for a couple of years for her to get over Sensei, Sensei decides to screw ~reasons~ and try to win her back, he loses to Mamura, and Suzume + Mamura end up together in the cutest way.

Sensei and Mamura's rivalry is too adorable and honestly I got such a kick out of them sizing each other up and making 'threats' to each other.

fight!!!
It's pretty sad when Sensei got dumped and my heart honestly broke when he had the teary eye thing going on; Sensei please don't cry..

Also, the love rival ended up being her best friend! I'm honestly glad that the love rival managed to move on, and become close friends with the MC, because in my opinion friendship > relationships most of the time.

Although cliched, I'd say the feelings portrayed is pretty darn accurate. Especially when you're in an inner turmoil about which path is the right one versus which part is the one that you want to follow. Very slice of life. Also does anyone think that high school romances are the best sort of romances??

Office romances just doesn't seem to hit the way high school romance does. In high school you're still young and fresh and not afraid of trying out different things and gaining a whole new experience and ~finding yourself~, whereas you're quite restricted with doing whatever you want when you become and adult and have more responsibilities. It's quite accurate how they covered that bit in the live-action.

the confession scene!

Oh no, am I having some sort of mid-life crisis right now?!

Anyway, if you're looking for something to squeal over and feel all fluffy and loved, then please do watch Hirunaka no Ryuusei! I'd recommend watching Ore Monogatari as well, these two are waaay too cute for the heart. I'm going to drop a spam of my fav screenshots, enjoy!

Bye for now, nerd out!
