Bloodstained:The astonishing tale of how IGA made Kickstarter history

Castlevania. No old school gamer is unfamiliar with the decades old series. The 2d side scrolling supernatural action rpg has fans across generations. It has loyal fans even in the west till this day, especially  after the huge wave Symphony of the Night made in the gaming world.

But perhaps what many don't know is that the creator of SOTN, Igarashi Koji, was told by the infamous Konami that 2D side-scrollers will never be developed again. Konami outsourced production of the recent Castlevania sequels, Lords of Shadows to Spanish company MercurySteam, and IGA, as he is listed in the credits, one of the most iconic game creators they have, with his trademark cowboy hat, left Konami in March 2014, to the dismay of loyal gamers.

But there was hope. This was his intention when he left.
"I've decided to break out on my own to have the freedom to make the kind of games I really want to make – the same kind I think fans of my past games want as well," iGA said in an official release."Leaving Konami was a big decision, and not one I took lightly—I've spent my entire career there, made many friends, and had a lot of great opportunities—but I hope all the gamers and fans who have supported me in the past will join me in being excited about what comes next. Wish me luck!"

And luck he has in spades. When IGA launched a Kickstarter for Bloodstained last year, an original 2d side scroller, because Konami allegedly refused to do it, the world watched in awe as it broke Kickstarter records by raising $500,000 in less than 24hrs! And it has doubled to a million dollars after that! Now it stands at a jaw dropping $5,545,992!

IGA is a marketing genius. He has made fundraising into a game! Each target unlocks something new! And funders have different tiers too. Depending on the amount of money you contribute, you get extra goodies, ranging from posters, soundtracks, premium boxes, maps, and even dinner with IGA in Japan! And fans have gladly shown their support for his indie effort. This will hopefully encourage more creators to break free of the stifling hold game companies have on them, latest being Rockman (Megaman) creator Inafune Keiji's Kickstarter Mighty No. 9. I will be covering both titles once more detail is available. Watch this space.
