Anime songs of the summer...

Yahallo!

How are you guys doing? I guess some of you guys are busy with your exams, so good luck. And to the others enjoying the holidays, I envy you. My holidays are short-lived as I injured myself while on a delivery errand. I kind of fell of my scooter but at the same time, did one of the most amazing flip I could have done in my life. So at least there’s a bright side.

If you can tell by the title, I’ll be picking out my favorite songs of the summer, songs that I’ve been grooving and rocking out to while travelling in the bus or singing in the shower. Since the summer is ending, many anime are following suit. It also means that most of the albums would have been released by now. I’ll also mention a few that caught my interest at the end of my selection, so hit the jukebox!

I’ll start with Aldnoah Zero. My picks are the two ending songs that came from the same album, “AZ” and “aLIEz” by Hiroyuki Sawano and Mizuki. This two didn’t really interest me when I was watching the anime but I only picked it up when the album was released. “AZ” left quite an impression on me it is quite soothing and very light on the ears, which makes it easy to listen to. It also reminds me of some Hatsune Miku songs with its melody. “aLIEz” on the other hand, is really fun to listen to. I kept waiting for the beat to drop at the chorus and can’t help shouting along with mizuki. You can feel the emotion when she sings which helps to amplify the enjoyment. It really compliments the ending visuals, which is colourful with the spectrum.

Wonderful colours, great song...

Next, is the high school romance anime, Ao Haru Ride. My pick would be the opening song, “Sekai wa Koi ni Ochiteiru” by CHiCO with Honeyworks. The title of the song can be considered one of the reasons I selected it. Come on. The world has fallen in love is kind of a beautiful saying. The song itself is also beautiful. The story it tells is quite touching and it’s nice to listen to on a rainy while waiting for the sun to appear from behind those grey clouds.

Next is from an anime that began in spring, Captain Earth. I chose the second ending song, which came from a favorite band of mine. “The Glory Days” by Tia and supercell is easy on the ears due to it being voice by yours truly and being accompanied with a catchy melody. With the visuals being colorful, it makes it even more wonderful.

Following that is the manga-comedy-romance anime, Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun. “Kimi Janakya Dame Mitai” by Masayoshi Oishi is one of my favorites this summer, which I believe is similar to Fluffysheep’s song choices for cardio workouts. I agree that exercise is important but I find it lovely enough just thumping my fingers to the rhythm. The song is extremely catchy to listen to and the chorus completes the slightly wacky beginning perfectly.

Yoisho!

Up next is Glasslip, where the anime confuses me a bit. The songs I’ve chosen are both the opening and ending song so it’s a double win. The opening is so amazing! “Natsu no Hi to Kimi no Koe” sung by the marvelous ChouCho left me with Goosebumps all over. I really love her voice and how soothing and serene it is. I would really like her to sing me lullabies. “Tomei na Sekai” by the lovely nano.ripe helps to end the anime just nicely. Her unique voice makes it sounds like fun whenever I listen to her. Both songs suit the anime well.

1, 2, 3 and jump!

Paatto Paatto hareyaka ni. Sakase mashou hana no you ni.
Hanayamata! This anime is so colorful. It’s like a kaleidoscope! Exaggerations aside, the anime is indeed vibrant and the opening song is absolutely perfect to accompany it. “Hana wa Odore ya Irohaniho” sung by Team Hanayamata ,the voice actresses themselves. It has a wonderful melody which is gentle and also upbeat and catchy at the same time. I would love to see a yosakoi of this song live.

Next is an anime that I have enjoyed most this summer. Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei, which began in spring, has gotten more action packed this season and it also delivered an awesome song as well. The ending song, “Mirror” by Rei Yasuda is hands down my favorite song this summer with its brilliant and colorful ending sequence that accompany it. Fantastic. Absolutely fantastic.

Kimi ga iru dakede ii...

Following that is Rail Wars! with their ending song, “OVERDRIVER” by ZAQ. My head can’t stop bobbing to the beat of this song. It’s quite surprising for me as I thought that I won’t pick this song as I am not a fan of this type and few others but I guess if the song lets my fingers thump to the beat, it's all that matters. Oh, and a side note, not happy with the anime.

A light novel adaptation that I read, Seirei Tsukai no Blade Dance brings with it two good songs. The opening song, “Kyoumei no True Force” by Hitomi Harada and the ending song, “Blade Dance” by Ni-Sokkususu consisting seiyuus of the heroines are two types that I am a sucker for. I don’t know what’s with me and Japanese singers singing in English, but I can’t help enjoying it. For the ending, it reminds me of some medieval (?) song I don’t what it is but I heard some songs that have similar tunes. Maybe it's the use of violins and other instruments?

Finally, is the second season of one of the most awaited anime, Sword Art Online II or GGO (which is what I called it) The opening and ending song are both my pick, similar to Glasslip and the above. “Ignite” by Eir Aoi and “Startear” Luna Haruna are both wonderful songs. It seems that both the singers for the Alfheim arc in SAO made another appearance in GGO as well. Out of the both of them, I think the ending sounds better. The visuals that accompany it, is wonderful. Sinon’s expressions in it are amazing. Her eyes look amazing when she was twirling. You guys know what I’m talking about right?

See... Look at those beautiful eyes...

Those were my pick for this summer’s anime. There are also a few that I want to mention as well. Well… few is an understatement though…

Barakamon opening – “Rashisa” by SUPER BEAVER
Diamond no Ace opening 2 – “Perfect Hero” by Tom-H@ck feat. Masayoshi Oishi
Diamond no Ace ending 2 – “Cloud Nine” by Seido high Baseball Team
Ao Haru Ride ending – “Buru” by Fujifabric
Ao Haru Ride insert song – “I will” by Chelsy
Captain Earth opening 2 – “Tokyo Dreamer” by Nico Touches The Walls
Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei opening 2 – “grilletto” by GARNiDELiA
Persona 4 the golden animation ending – “Dazzling Smile” by Hirata
Sailor moon crystal opening – “Moon Pride” by Momoiro Clover Z
Tokyo Ghoul opening – “unravel” by TK from Ling Tosite Sigure

Well, that’s it then. So long summer anime 2014. It has been a great three months or so spending it with you. Even though there were ups and downs, I still enjoyed them.
