Yaoi Manga Recommendation - Part 1
Warning: If you do not like BL (Boy's Love), Yaoi, MxM, or any sort of gayness, please skip this post. If not, welcome, my people! Also, disclaimer: I'm using the term yaoi really loosely here. There's a whole lot of arguments out there on the net on the correct usage of shōnen-ai, yaoi, and BL, but I'm just going to stick to yaoi, since there is going to be a lot of frickle frackle (google this term if you're not sure what it means). I'll let you guys know the level of skinship for each manga.
Over the years I've read quite the number of yaoi manga, and I've saved some under my 'favorite' list. I have pretty high expectations, and right at the top of the list of expectations is the artwork. If the cover artwork doesn't appeal to me, I automatically shut down and don't bother to even read the summary. I'm terrible, I know.
Alright, let's get started. I feel like I should go in alphabetical order. It seems like I do have quite a number of favorites, so I'll be splitting them up into different posts.
ft. two out of the three couples |
Art & Story: Junko
Genre: Comedy, School Life, Yaoi
Chapters: 8 (Completed)
Skinship Level: 7
Three seperate stories, and the comedy is definitely there! All three stories are delinquent (or almost delinquent) and nice boy pairings. The manga isn't that explicit, there are a few panels of full body poses but overall it is pretty clean. Isn't the artwork cute? I love Junko's art; you'll see plenty of her manga on my recommendation list. Actually, I think you'll be seeing all of her works on the list.
Title: Bara to Yaban
Art & Story: Konjiki Runa
Genre: School Life, Yaoi
Chapters: 7 (Completed)
Skinship Level: 6
Two different pairings in the same universe. It's a super adorable fluffy story with the last two chapters being all steamy and you know. I would have kept the rating at 2 if not for the last two chapters containing the frickle frackling. The beginning chapters have the important bits clothed so that's not eye bleach worthy. I really like the art for this manga.
Title: Doushitemo Furetakunai
Art & Story: Yoneda Kou
Genre: Drama, Romance, Yaoi
Chapters: 11 (Completed)
Skinship Level: 5
Two different adult pairings in the same universe. It's a pretty serious story, with some backstory and all. There's lots of drama and complications, but of course every worked out in the end! Skinship level at 5 due to full body poses, but important bits are covered. This is a good read! It's always nice to have some longer story plots.
loud sigh |
Art & Story: Takarai Rihito
Genre: Drama, Slice of Life, Yaoi
Chapters: 12 (Completed)
Skinship Level: 6
One solo pairing. I'd say there is some comedy thrown in as well, but it depends on your type of humor I guess. Skinship level at 2 for kissing and some panels of covered poses. The last chapter is full of them frickle frackle so take note! The art is pretty cute, and it doesn't hurt that the characters are incredibly adorable too. I think some translations are slightly off, but it's still understandable.
so beautiful |
Art & Story: Junko
Genre: Drama, Romance, Yaoi
Chapters: 6 (Completed)
Skinship Level: 7
Another Junko manga! This one features a lot of heartbreak, so be prepared! Do skip the second last chapter if you're just there for the story (frickle frackle time!). The last chapter features a mashup of couples from some of Junko's other mangas, but you don't have to know the couples, it's just a cheesy side one-shot. Once again the art is superbly well done, but her characters do tend to look similar to each other. Oh well, they're all still cute anyway!
So that's five mangas for you to check out for now, and if you do like what's been recommended so far then stay tuned for more! If not, then I'm truly sorry that this list has not been up to your standards. Also, if you guys have any recommendations for me, do let me know!
