Houseki no Kuni

Hello my nuggets!!

I bring to you my favorite anime this season: Houseki no Kuni!

I honestly started this series only because I liked the art, and was looking for something causal to burn my Sundays. I didn't even read what it was about, because ain't nobody got time for that. I kid, I usually just jump right in and watch a couple of episodes, then decide if I want to continue on with it.

Right now HnK is about 8 episodes in; I came out to have a good time and I'm honestly feeling so attacked right now. I thought it was going to be a lighthearted story about some familial bonding or some discovering yourself sort of thing and what I got instead is killing me slowly and painfully.

I went back to the title page to look at the summary so maybe I can blame myself for not heeding the warning of feels if there were any, but look!
In the distant future, a new immortal and genderless life form called Gems populate the Earth. The 28 Gems must fight against the Moon Dwellers, who attack them regularly to abduct them and to turn them into decorations. Each Gem is assigned a role, such as a fighter or a medic.
Being only 300 years old, Phosphophyllite is the youngest of the Gems and has no assignment yet. He wants to help to fight the Moon Dwellers, but is too weak and brittle for battle. One day the master of Gems, Kongou (Adamantine), assigns him the task of creating a natural history encyclopedia.
It sounds like some inner strength self discovery thing! Sort of a 'something only a weak gem can do' thing?? I mean, overall it is some pretty heavy self-discovery plot, if I'm interpreting it correctly, but my heart cannot take the stress every Sunday when a new gem is introduced and then swiftly destroyed soon after.

I got so attached to the latest one and BOOM, gone so fast. Shattered to pieces. Like my heart.

But feels aside, it is really good!! Each gem has their own distinct personality, or at least you can tell there are differences in personality. My favorite one is Bort, because why not? I like their aesthetic and personality, and honestly they're so tough that if they do break, I would too.

The next of my favorites is Antarcticite, again because of the aesthetics and personality. Look at the whiteness of their scheme!! And their personality is too cute. Kind of childish with Sensei, but at the same time they're a soldier who protects their siblings from winter. The Winter Soldier?? Also I just realized they're the opposite color palette.

My last favorite so far is Sensei!!! I like his eyes!! Absolutely biased view and decision. Sensei's sort of a parental figure to the gems, and (at this point I've just found out there's a manga) I'd say his parental emotions show up better on the manga. Personally, while anime Sensei works just fine, I'd say he showcases a wider range of emotions and expressions right off the bat. Much more snark too. It's quite cute how Sensei says he's meditating, but he's actually just napping hehee.

Overall I rate this excellent/10!! If you haven't watched this yet please do!! Now if you'll excuse me, I've got a bunch of manga reading to do.

Nerd out!
